A Special 'Hello' to new subscribers! What a great bunch of friends
I ‘meet’ every day with this project! Great to have you onboard!
In this issue:
1) A simple alarm system - that you probably already have!
2) Subscribers-only parts sale extended!
Buy any two products & get FREE shipping to any US address!
3) Appliance Glossary project: what do you think? Improvements?
4) Want to work online? Read this first:
‘The 7 Signs of a Scam’, by Sharon Davis
(I haven’t forgotten that we were talking about refrigeration system
repairs way back when <grin>). We’ll get back to the subject soon, I
promise! There’s too much going on in my life right now, and I have to
keep these as short as possible. My sincere apologies!)
1) Next time you come home for the night and you
start to put your keys away, you should know about this simple alarm
system that you probably already have - and it requires no installation!
Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside
your home or someone trying to break into your house and you’d rather
not shoot him (it makes a mess!) just press the panic button on your car
remote. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound
until you turn it off or the car battery dies.
Test it. If yours is like mine, it should work from anywhere inside your
house.
After your horn blows a few times, all the neighbors will be looking out
their windows (OK, we don’t have neighbors here on the mountain, but…)
to see what’s going on, and perps generally don't like being the center
of attention.
And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking
lot. The alarm can work the same way there.
(Now if I can just break the habit of leaving my keys in the ignition so
I don’t forget where they are…)

2) You've put up with my rambling for so long (some
of you for over 5 years now! You're amazing! What endurance!), and I’ve
been trying to think of ways to show my appreciation for your incredible
support. So I’ll start by extending last month’s special.
A bunch of you took advantage of me last month ;-), so again this month,
I’ll throw in the shipping and handling on any two or more products, to
any US address. But only for DRSNews subscribers, and only during the
month of August (at least for now). And this has to be limited to US
subscribers for now. Sorry!
So here’s the deal: Buy any two products from the website during August,
‘mix and match’, and I’ll ship them free, Priority Mail (fast!).
Pass the word if you know anyone who’s in the market for any appliance
parts I carry in stock. Subscribing is free, of course, but they do have
to put up with my rambling once every month ;-).
One of the rewards I get from writing this newsletter is all the
encouragement you all (y’all to you guys down south) have been to me
over the years. I want you to know I appreciate you, and this is one
small, token ‘thank you’ that I can throw your way.
This might be extended to a more permanent ‘perk’ for subscribers; we’ll
have to see how it goes. Anyway, THANK YOU!
Just click 'Online Specials' or 'Vintage Parts' in the left margin of
this page.
PS - Please send me any ideas you might have for any
additional special 'perks' I can add for you!
Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's
face he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a ride in
the car he sticks his head out the window? :-) |
3) I’m still working on a new project here on the
site, and would love your opinion. The text portions are finished and
some of the illustrations added. I call it a ‘glossary of appliance
terms’, and hope to eventually include a lot of pictures. And it’ll soon
be available as one downloadable pdf file once I get it ‘tweaked’.
That’s where you come in:
Please let me know what you think when you get a chance. Any ideas you
have: improvements, changes, more ease of use, terms you’d like to
see added, etc, are welcome.
Here’s what I have so
far.
There’s been a lot of demand for something like this; sort of an
abridged encyclopedia of terms used in appliance service every day. I
tend to assume that everyone knows what I’m talking about, but it can
get confusing. This project is an attempt to list the common (and not so
common) words and phrases used in the profession.
Thanks in advance for your help!
4) Here’s a good article, written by Sharon Davis, that’s somewhat
off-topic, but I have a lot of folks asking me how to get started
working online. There are so many online scams and GRQ schemes these
days, I know someone can benefit from this. Wow, did I ever make my
share of bad decisions when I was starting out in this crazy Networld! I
would’ve avoided so many of them if I'd just followed this simple
advice.
Called 'The Seven Signs of a Scam', it’s a longer article than I like to
include in the newsletter, so I’ve posted a copy
here
Thank you, Sharon!

As always, if you have any topics you’d like to see
discussed here or covered in an online article, let me know and I’ll do
my best to oblige. And don't forget those testimonials! Many thanks to
those of you who've already sent yours in!
May God richly bless you and yours,
Dave Harnish
