Maytag Wringer Washer #38518 Gulmite Wrench for Power Unit Bolts
Used in E, J, and N Series Models

Long Discontinued by Maytag and Very Hard to Find!

Note: Whenever I find another one or two of
these I post them on Ebay HERE

Maytag #38518 Gulmite Wrench

This tool’s used to remove and reinstall the 6 special Gulmite (33-point) bolts used to attach Maytag wringer washer tubs to their power unit (transmission). Late in their production during the early 1980's, these were changed to standard hex head bolts, but until then most of them used these strange little critters.

These wrenches have been 'no longer available' for ages, and it's really tough to find one these days! Maytag's original part number for these tools, back in the day, was #38518.

Note: to remove the original (plated brass) bolts without one of these wrenches, use a Dremel carbide cutoff wheel to grind a slot in their heads, then unscrew them with a big screwdriver, and scrap. Replace with standard hex-head stainless 5/16-18 bolts. It's a lot of work, but can be done. The original bolt heads look like this:

Also, be sure to keep track of the length of the bolts as you remove them. Two are longer than the other 4, and they have to go back into the correct spots.

Please contact me if you have any questions. Thanks!
