Gas Dryer 'M' Valve Coil Set

Gas Dryer 'M' Valve Coils Set SCA700

These coils are used in nearly all brands of gas dryers today, and usually fail by going intermittent, causing your gas dryer to run, but with no heating taking place.

The most common coil failure can be confusing, because they'll work fine when cold, that is, it'll heat when first started up, but after a few minutes, when these coils warm up, the tiny wire inside will expand and electrically open, causing the gas valve to 'drop' closed. Often, once they cool again, it'll heat when restarted. Confusing, and frustrating.

The good news is:

1) these two coils (actually 3 - one is a double coil internally) are the only parts in the ignition system that cause it to act this way.

2) They're very easy to replace. You don't even have to turn off the gas! Take off the dryer front panel (not as hard as it sounds) to access the valve assy on the dryer's base. Unplug the coils, remove the two screws that hold them on, and replace them with these new ones. That's it!

If you'd like to test them with an ohmmeter to try to 'catch them in the act' of being open or out of spec, see this page
