Whirlpool/Kenmore
661570 Dryer Belt
(for 27" models)

Here's the very popular Whirlpool #661570 drive belt. Used in the 27 inch (wide) gas and electric dryers made by Whirlpool,
including Whirlpool, Kenmore (model numbers starting with '110'), Kitchenaid, Roper, and
Estate brands (if you have any doubt about yours, just
drop
me an email and I'll double-check it for you).
Note: When the belt breaks on these models,
the dryer shuts down and won't start. There's a 'broken belt switch' on
the idler arm that does this, so if you have one of these and it's
suddenly gone dead, reach inside and turn the drum. If it turns freely,
with very little 'drag', a broken belt is most likely the reason.
You'll find the model number inside your
dryer's door, usually starting with 'L' if it's a Whirlpool, most often 'K' if it's
a Kitchenaid, and '110' if it's a Whirlpool-made Kenmore (it won't
fit the newer 417 (Electrolux/Frigidaire) Kenmores - email me on those).
Note this belt does NOT work in the 29"
wide dryers, but only the 27's (27 inch wide cabinet, with the lint
filter inside the door). I stock the
29" belt , too, but if the
belt in your 29" is bad it's probably time to pickup a
29" dryer repair kit and do the job
right.
This belt is one of those items that you'll want to replace while you
have the dryer apart if it's showing any cracks or shredding edges. Will
probably save your tearing the dryer apart again. (Even though taking
your dryer apart is a lot of fun, it can get 'old' if you have to do it
twice in one week! <grin>)
This belt is also included in the
repair kit for the 27" dryers, and I
highly recommend the kit. It's a very inexpensive way to replace all the
'running gear' at once.
It's not a bad idea to keep at
least an extra belt on hand if you're at all handy and enjoy the
affections of an admiring spouse (and clean laundry) <grin>. They always
seem to fail on weekends or holidays or when your college kids have come
home with those carloads of laundry! ;-).
Not
hard to replace,
