"I just wanted to reach out to you to tell you thanks for all the help... You have great customer service - reminds me of the good ole days! Thanks again and if I need any more [Maytag wringer] parts, I will definitely turn to you." - Tara D, Strasburg, VA

"Your website was very informative and the “drain heat exchanger” copper wire is exactly what we were looking for.  What a phenomenal idea that could only come from an intelligent man with your experience. So intuitive yet simple. We have utilized many appliance repairmen over the years and they were never interested in solving our problem. Understandable as it is their revenue flow. “Give an man a fish, he eats once. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime”. Thank you for sharing your years of experience and problem solving." - Michael B, Gilroy, CA

"Dave,
You are my hero! After replacing the agitator dogs and the motor coupling the washer seemed to be working great. Until it stopped spinning. And then it jerked so hard that I was sure everything we just replaced would break again.  After lots of searching I found your site. I bought the silicone lubricant, got it in the right spot (with my husband rotating the tub), and it works great. The washer runs more smoothly than it has in years. Thanks for the tip on your website. You are the only one that made this suggestion and I am sure glad that I'm not replacing another part right now." - Susanna N.

"Hi Dave,
I want to thank you so very much for your webpage showing up when I was searching for a solution to the water under my fruit & veggie crisper drawers in the bottom of my new Samsung French door refrigerator!

After a repairman ordered ‘replacement’ parts for the problem, which took months to arrive, then made the ‘repair’ of the copper icemaker coils behind the frig and something else I can’t even remember what, it seemed to be fixed. Several months go by and water appears again!  Since I had watched him take the back out of the interior back wall and he showed me the frozen drain – which we defrosted – I knew that it must have frozen back up. Whatever parts I had paid for didn’t fix the problem at all. I decided to tackle it myself!

I went on line and read several fixit ideas, then watched several YT videos that showed various ways to “fix” the problem, and some were ridiculous like stuffing paper towels around the heating element so it wouldn’t refreeze! None of them seemed to work long term per the presenters and didn’t logically fix the problem. When I opened DavesRepair.com and read that one page tutorial from you, with only one photo – Yippee – I knew that would do it. Everything you said made sense and actually addresses the problem of the stupid tiny, too short, metal tab that is supposed to melt the ice in the drain hole – DUH!!  Just stick a longer metal rod in the hole to melt, or keep the water from freezing in the first place.

I bought the copper tubing and made two hooks, one a little longer than the other and ended up using them both spaced apart from each other. The hardest part was taking the backing off the back wall of the refrigerator because the Philips screws were also frozen, then defrosting the frozen solid drain trough and drain hole using a hair dryer carefully so  as not to soften the plastic walls etc. It was such a simple fix, it has never frozen up again in over a year. And for some reason all the other repair instructions said to pull out the fridge and unplug it – Huh? It was much easier turning off the power to the fridge from the electrical panel and using an extension cord for the hairdryer – easy peasy.

You are a gem and I’m just sorry it took me over a year to finally write to you and thank you for taking the time to post this repair. When the hinge on the door flapper on the same fridge broke last month (apparently another common problem on French door fridges) I went on line, ordered a replacement part, popped off the caps covering the Philips screws, removed the broken flapper and just snapped in the new one – took 5 mins – and no instructions came with the part. (Turned off power at electric box first since there is an electrical connection inside the flapper). You gave me the confidence to try and fix it myself.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Hope you are enjoying your “semi-retirement”.
Gail P. (AKA Mrs. Fixit), Brookings, OR

"Hi Dave,

I keep a gratitude journal, and was looking through some old entries.  I found one from 6 years ago where I posted that I was grateful for your website and specifically for the copper wire freezer drain trick you posted on it.  We were able to fix our problem thanks to that information, and our fridge/freezer is still working great today!  A neighbor of ours (who had the same problem about 6 months earlier than us) didn't know about your trick and disposed/replaced her unit even though it was only a few years old.  You saved us the cost of a new Fridge/freezer unit, as well as the hassle, and also helped save the environment from one more broken appliance at the town dump!  I just checked your site and I am very happy that it's active and you're still helping people!  Keep up the great work and God Bless" - John, West Hartford, CT

"Hi Dave,
We somehow found your website with the grease the brake drum tip. BEST EVER!!! Worked like a charm and saved us a new washer (my husband’s first option....or a new clutch & brakes, the second thought on what might be wrong. We have you on our favorite’s now and have nicknamed our old Whirlpool "Dave" in your honor!!! They don’t come much like you any more.
Merry Christmas big guy!! and to that handsome puppy in your picture too.
From a two dog family, Cheryl & Jim"

"Dave, thank you so much for your assistance....you saved me!  I was able to get the dryer drum out and found it to be in dire need of some grease! I got it all lubed up and put back together and it's as quiet as new! Thank you a million. Know who to ask if I have questions now :)"

"Every time I use my toaster I think of you.  I just wanted to say how much we are enjoying using it every day.  It gives me good thoughts of my Mom who it belonged to years ago.  Thank you for the care you took to get it back in working order.  May only good things happen in your life.  Thanks again, Harriet K, Shreveport, LA

My favorite so far:

"You are a bum!
About a week ago the vintage dryer we owned failed to operate properly. After 15 years of great service I envisioned a brand new, modern, front loading dryer emblazoned in today's colors as a replacement. Surely the cost to repair the old dryer, service call included, would be more than $200.00. My couch potato said, 'Don't worry about it... I can fix it'. After a week of waiting, there was simply no progress either fixing the dryer or getting him off the couch. So.. Thursday I issued an ultimatum. .'Fixed by Monday or else!' Thursday the couch potato found your site and ordered the part... $30.00 including shipping. Friday there was an e-mail from you that it had been shipped. Saturday it arrived by Priority Mail and later the same day couch potato installed the part. Couch potato even used the DIY instructions from your site. When done, pushed the start button and off it went... just like new. Thanks to you Mr. Harnish, I will not get my new front loading do-everything dryer that I had envisioned. Rest assured that access to your site has now been blocked in our house. Go spoil somebody else's dream.
Thanks for nothing" Beverly S, Nashville, TN

"Dave: Thank you for the excellent service. It all went very well. The last time I had to replace the ignitor, I purchased it from someone else and the unit cost more, plus shipping was additional. I really appreciate the excellent service and the pricing.  Rest assured, when I need any more parts, I will check with you first. Thanks again. It was my pleasure dealing with you." Ralph D, Whippany, NJ

"Dave, I just want to say thank you for your site. I almost got dragged to the appliance store to buy a new stove until I found your web site. A few minutes on your site and a quick, painless purchase of a $35 ignitor from your site and I am all set. My stove broke down on Monday and the part was here by Thursday. 30 minutes to install and works like the day we bought it. PS - My wife isn’t happy with you :-)". Spiros D, Waterford, MI

"I had to put up a testimonial on how great it was dealing with Dave. The helpful content on his site and his prices really impressed me, but what impressed me more was his honesty. I contacted Dave looking to buy a dryer element, and he promptly replied, but told me before I spent any money to check a list of things first; I may need a cheaper part. He could have just as easily sold me the element and waited for me to come back needing a different part and make more money from me. It really is nice to have someone that is out to help people nowadays, and Dave IS one of those people. I did need the element after all, and Dave had the best price I found anywhere, plus all the instructions on his site to install it myself. Bottom line is: if you want to save money and deal with someone who is as straightforward as they come, then you came to the right place." Tom B, Riverdale, GA

"Our Whirlpool washing machine is several years old and wasn't working properly recently. I was ready to head to Lowe's and get a new one, but then I read in your newsletter article how to fix the exact problem I was having. The information in your newsletter helped me completely repair the machine, including putting in a neutral drain kit.  It now works like a new one! Thanks Dave, you saved me several hundred dollars!" John J.

"Thanks so much for web site. It has helped me fix a couple of things, most recently my Whirlpool washer. I went to trouble shoot the pressure switch and found my piece of tubing just laying there, hooked it up and we are back in business! Thanks" Joe W, Lizton, IN

"Dave, thank you for your awesome website. You saved me hundreds if not thousands of $$ this weekend. My 6 year old Kenmore fridge went completely warm this weekend... it had power and sounded like it was running but no cooling at all. All the other websites I visited led me to believe my compressor was bad and I may as well plan on buying a new fridge. Through my web searches I stumbled upon your site. Your "How to" section showed me how to test my compressor with an ohmmeter. Well, not only did I determine that my compressor is good, but during the process I found some components on the compressor starter mechanism that were "fried". For less than a hundred bucks in parts and a little work my fridge is working again! Thank you very much, Bill M."

PS - The price of the style fridge I have has doubled in the last 6 years. I would have been looking at 2 grand to replace it! :) :) :)

"Hi Dave. I just wanted to drop you a line and say Thank You very much for the article you posted on gas/LP ranges that explained how to change the orifices from natural gas to LP. I had already figured that part out as it was very simple to do, but could not for the life of me figure out how to get the flame to go to a very low/simmer setting. When I read your explanation, it only took me about two seconds to find the adjustments, and in five minutes my wife's new Whirlpool range was performing perfectly. Thanks again, and as a bona-fide do-it-yourselfer I look forward to reading your monthly newsletters. Thanks again and God bless." Guy K, Benton, La.

"I want to take a few minutes to thank you for the wonderful service you offer. I purchased an oven ignitor a few days ago and received it in two days! The part worked perfectly and now we can bake again! Other online sites as well as a parts store near my house wanted to charge as much as $75.00 for the same part. I couldn’t believe it when I found your web site and the price was nearly half what others were charging. Anyway, thanks again. I will be subscribing to your newsletter and will tell other 'do it yourselfers' about your web site and your service." - Bob B, Fenton, MI

"Thanks Dave! Your service was tremendous! Thanks to your step-by-step instructions for drive coupler replacement, even a 'do-It yourselfer' like me could get the washer coupler replaced. I just wish I would have found your website before I took the back off - would've saved me some work. After following your instructions everything went smoothly, and after some initial "new rubber smell" everything is working great. I will not hesitate to use your website in the future. Thanks again!" - Tim M, Prairie Du Sac, WI

"Hello Dave,
I just had to sit down and take a few minutes to thank you for the wonderful help and service you gave with my range burner ignitor. WOW! I have never received such quick, courteous, and helpful service anywhere. You are tops! You definitely have my business. I've saved your site as a favorite, have your card pasted on the wall, and I will surely recommend you to all my friends.  Where I work, all my friends are tech savvy, as we are instrument technicians. I understand the value of getting parts, and quickly. I received the parts in two days. I wish I'd  known about you a month ago, when a defrost terminator thermostat went bad on my mother's fridge, forcing me to make a 120-mile drive to a larger city to get the part. We live in a very rural part of Utah.

Again thanks, I can't say enough good. I replaced the burner ignitor in my aged mother's whirlpool range and presto! Up and running again!  She thanks you for your kindness. And by the way, your faith in God is what drew us to give you our business." Tony C, Meadow, Utah

"Just want to thank you for your help. My washing machine is getting old, and I don't have a lot of extra money. The machine was not agitating properly and my wife was sure it was time for a new one. I found all the information I needed on your website to diagnose the problem and order the parts. In less than a week, for a mere $12.50 and about half an hour, we had the problem fixed. The last step of your instructions say to pat myself on the back for saving a $75 service call. The truth is, I saved $750 for a new machine!"  John W, Buffalo, NY

All I can say is THANK YOU!! Your web site saved me. I have 2 small children and had one broken washer - not a great combination! Your web site's excellent step by step detailed instructions for replacing our washer's drive coupler saved us not only money but frustration! Thank you again for being there. - Nancy H, Boardman, Ohio

"We got the dryer element yesterday and it was installed in a snap! We're up and running again. Thanks for the good price and quick delivery.  Also, I wanted to let you know that, while the price was important, it was the evidence of your Christian faith that was the deciding factor when I ordered. I'll bookmark your website for future need." - David B., Philadelphia, PA

"I am surprised that I actually worked on a dryer! Usually, we would just call a repairman.  My husband and I did it together. The whole experience cost us a whopping $10.00 for the thermostat. SOOOOOOO, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, for leading us in the right direction, and for your encouragement. Take care, and let us know if you ever decide to visit Arizona."  - Emerald R, Cochise County, AZ

"I was looking for some advice about washer/dryer manufacturers, and since you are a technician and work on them, I felt completely confident when you recommended Whirlpool to me. Your opinion and your recommendation is invaluable. I hope you do not mind if I ask you another question in the future... because I really think you know what you are talking about! One thing is for sure... if it relates to a technical situation and I need it solved... We are going to ask Dave at Dave's Repair." - Monika G, Florida

"Hi Dave, I just put the glowbar in and can now have that roast, thanks very much to you! The only regret I have is when I sent a feedback I didn't realize that I ran out of space, so I'm sorry it didn't get all of my great comments about the great service you supply. EIGHTY letters isn't enough for a decent feedback comment. Well like I said 'thanks once again.' If I need another part you will be my first person to call. Yours gratefully" - George L.

"Just a quick note to say thank you very much for my oven part.  I found you on E-Bay after much searching of Sears and other such appliance stores.  The part needed was going to cost me $80.00 elsewhere with shipping - YIKES! I own a small 5 room bed and breakfast in the foothills of the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Not only was the part I found through you so much less money, the shipping was reasonable ($4.00) and I had it within three days!  I cannot thank you enough for getting me back on my feet in such a quick and efficient manner!" - Carol O, Campton, NH www.CamptonInn.com
